NAMI Hudson County offers NAMI Basics, a free, 6-session education program for parents, caregivers, and family members of children and teens (ages 18 and under) who are experiencing mental health challenges.

NAMI Basics is taught by a NAMI-trained team with lived experience raising a child with a mental health condition. They understand what you’re going through—because they’ve been there too.
Nearly all participants say they would recommend this program to others.

What You’ll Gain

By participating in NAMI Basics, you’ll learn that you are not alone. You’ll find understanding, support, and encouragement from others who truly understand what you’re facing. Together, you’ll learn that recovery is a journey—and that there is hope.

NAMI Basics Covers

  • How mental health conditions can affect your child and your family

  • Treatment options and the professionals who provide care

  • How to navigate school and public mental health systems

  • Ways to advocate for your child at school and in health care settings

  • How to prepare for and respond to crisis situations

  • The importance of taking care of yourself

Participants are asked to commit to attending all six sessions.
